About the Studio

Twelve years, one stubborn idea: photograph people honestly.

Clicqx was founded in 2014 by Diane Goodman after eleven years in newsroom photography. Today it's a quiet two-room studio on Four Seasons Terrace in Glen Allen, Virginia.

Diane Goodman, Founder

A short, honest bio.

I grew up in Boulder, Colorado, the kind of kid who borrowed her father's Pentax K1000 every weekend and refused to give it back. I went to Syracuse for photojournalism, spent eleven years working newsrooms in Denver and Norfolk, and finally settled in Glen Allen with my husband Tom in 2013.

I opened Clicqx the next year. The name is a private joke — a thing my grandmother used to say about taking pictures: "Make it clicqx, dear, we don't have all day." I think she'd find it funny it ended up on a sign.

Outside the studio I am the worst gardener on the cul-de-sac, a decent cook, and a steady customer at Sub Rosa Bakery on Robinson Street.

How we work

A few things we believe.

01

Slow is better.

We take fewer clients each season so every session gets real attention. You'll never feel rushed through a sitting.

02

Light is the budget.

We chase natural window light and golden hour. It costs nothing and it ages better than any preset on the market.

03

Print or it didn't happen.

Every package includes a heirloom print or album. Hard drives die. A framed portrait outlives all of us.

04

Real, not styled.

We won't pose your kids into cookie cutters. We'll just photograph them being themselves — that's the part you'll miss later.

05

Local first.

Almost everything we use is made in Virginia or the Carolinas — frames from a shop in Ashland, albums hand-bound in Asheville.

06

Your photos, your rights.

You get full personal-use rights to every image we deliver. No watermarks, no upsells on digital files.

The Studio

A small room with very good light.

The Clicqx studio is two small rooms above a florist on Four Seasons Terrace. The front room faces north for soft, consistent light all day. The back room is a working space — coffee, prints in progress, sample albums, a couch the dog claims when she visits.

Most sessions begin here. We sit down, look at a few sample albums, and talk through what you actually want before a camera comes out.

Visit: 4601 Four Seasons Ter, Unit G, Glen Allen, VA 23060. Free parking. Tuesday–Saturday by appointment.
